Is NSW battery rebate​ available?

Yes, the NSW Home Energy Saver Program is now available, providing eligible NSW homeowners and landlords with access to up to $15,000 in zero-interest finance for approved home energy upgrades.

NSW Home Energy Saver Program – Full Info

The NSW Government has launched the Home Energy Saver Program to help eligible households reduce energy bills through solar, battery storage, electrification, and energy-efficiency upgrades.

The first stage of the program is now available, offering eligible homeowners and landlords access to up to $15,000 in zero-interest finance, repayable over up to 10 years, subject to lender approval and responsible lending requirements.

An additional up to $4,000 upfront discount has also been announced for eligible lower-income households and concession card holders. This discount is not yet available and is expected to launch later in 2026.

Loan Details:

  • Amount: Eligible applicants may access up to $15,000 in zero-interest finance for approved home energy improvements.
  •  Repayment Term: Up to 10 years. 

  • Finance Providers: Loans are currently available through approved providers including Brighte and Plenti, with additional providers expected to join the program.

Eligible Upgrades:

  • The loan can be used for a range of approved home energy improvements, including:

    • Rooftop solar systems
    • Home battery storage
    • Heat pump hot water systems
    • EV chargers
    • Switchboard upgrades
    • Energy-efficient heating and cooling
    • Insulation and other approved energy-efficiency improvements
    • Home energy assessments

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Available to eligible NSW homeowners and landlords
  • Combined taxable household income of up to $210,000
  • Subject to lender approval and responsible lending requirements
  • Installations must be completed by approved installers participating in the program
  • NETCC approval is expected to be required for participating installers

Upfront Discount:

  • A separate up to $4,000 upfront discount has been announced.

    The discount is expected to become available later in 2026 and is intended for eligible:

    • Lower-income households
    • Concession card holders
    • Pensioners
    • Some renters and landlords (where applicable)

    The discount is not currently available.

Can It Be Combined With Other Incentives?

  • Yes, the program is designed to work alongside other eligible incentives, including:

    • Federal Battery Rebate
    • Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)
    • Energy Savings Scheme (ESS)
    • Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS)

Eligible Victorian owner-occupiers can access Solar Victoria’s solar battery loans program.

This program offers an interest-free loan of up to $8,800 for the purchase of a new solar battery.

To qualify, you need to meet the criteria below:

  • You are the owner-occupier of an existing property where the system is to be installed.
  • You have a combined household taxable income of less than $210,000 per year.
  • The value of your home is under $3 million.
  • You have a solar panel system with an inverter capacity equal to or greater than 5kW installed on the property, or will be installed with the solar battery.
  • The property does not have an existing energy storage system.
  • The proposed energy storage solution has a capacity of at least 6kWh and is listed on Solar Victoria’s approved battery product list.
  • Pre-approval to connect a battery to the grid is organised from your Distributed Network Service Provider (DNSP).
  • You agree to receive information from the DNSP about participating in battery trials to maximise the value of having one.

ACT Government Solar Battery Rebate - Full Info

Under the Sustainable Household Scheme, homeowners in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) can access interest-free loans ranging from $2,000 to $15,000 to support energy-efficient investments, including home solar battery storage systems.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be ACT residents who own a home or hold a current ACT driver’s licence (for electric vehicle purchases).

Solar Battery Rebate QLD - Full Info

The Queensland Government’s Battery Booster Program, which provided rebates for installing home battery systems, has concluded.

The program offered two rebates:

  1. Standard Rebate: Households with a combined annual income under $180,000 could receive up to $3,000.

  2. Low-Income Rebate: Households where the highest earner’s income was $66,667 or less in the previous financial year were eligible for up to $4,000.

Residents of the City of Adelaide can receive a 50% discount, up to $2,000, on solar battery storage through the Sustainability Incentives Scheme.

Solar Battery Rebate WA- Full Info

Currently, there are no state-specific solar battery rebates or incentives available in Western Australia.

However, residents can benefit from the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), which provides Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) to reduce the upfront costs of installing solar panel systems.

Additionally, Western Australia offers the Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS), which allows eligible households to receive payments for surplus electricity exported back to the grid.

Eligible households, businesses, and not-for-profit organisations in the Northern Territory can access the Home and Business Battery Scheme, which offers grants to support the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with batteries and inverters, or the addition of batteries and inverters to existing solar PV systems.

Grant Details (Effective 1 December 2024):

  • Amount: $400 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of usable battery system capacity, up to a maximum of $12,000.
    Northern Territory Government

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants: Registered owners of residential properties, registered Northern Territory businesses, and not-for-profit or community organisations operating in the NT.

  • Property Status: The property can be owner-occupied or used as an investment; however, only one application per property and per homeowner is permitted.

  • System Requirements: The grant can be used to purchase and install a solar PV system with an eligible battery and inverter, or an eligible battery and inverter only if a solar PV system is already installed. The battery system must be on the approved list assessed as virtual power plant capable.

  • Exclusions: The funding cannot be used to purchase and install solar PV panels and inverters where they are not being installed simultaneously with a battery.

This scheme aims to reduce energy costs and promote energy independence for Territorians.

Federal Battery Rebate - Full Info

The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program is now helping eligible households, businesses and community organisations reduce the upfront cost of installing battery storage.

The program is delivered through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), with the rebate generally provided as an upfront discount by your installer.

The rebate is available for eligible battery systems installed alongside new or existing rooftop solar, making it easier than ever to store more of the energy you generate and reduce your reliance on the grid.

Grant Details:

  • Available Now: The Federal Battery Rebate applies to eligible battery systems installed on or after 1 July 2025.
  • Upfront Discount: The rebate is applied as an upfront reduction in the cost of eligible battery installations through participating installers.
  • Battery Size: Eligible battery systems must have a nominal capacity between 5 kWh and 100 kWh. STCs are available on the first 50 kWh of usable capacity.
  • Solar Requirement: Batteries must be installed with a new or existing rooftop solar PV system.
  • VPP Capability: For on-grid systems, the battery must be technically capable of participating in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). Participation itself is not mandatory.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Bigger batteries do not automatically deliver better value—the right battery size depends on your household’s energy usage and solar generation.
  • Since 1 May 2026, the program uses tiered STC support, making correct battery sizing more important than ever.
  • Rebate support will continue to reduce gradually over time under the program’s scheduled taper.
  • The Federal Battery Rebate may be able to work alongside other eligible state incentives, depending on the installation, products selected, installer and individual scheme requirements.

My experience with SEA was first class. From the initial e-mail and then phone calls with Tarek Jawad from the sales team. Tarek was excellent to deal with - not pushy at all and very knowledgeable. When I was ready to proceed Tarek was again very supportive and gave clear timelines to installation date.
The installation went well, the boys were polite and efficient. Everything was clean and tidy and they took time to ensure I was happy with the app for monitoring the system. And now, nearly two months later I am still very happy. There has so far only been one day where we have used grid power and that was when I left the air-con on all night! So Tarek's recommended combination of some additional solar panels and a 'right-sized' battery was spot on for our needs. The cost to us was excellent value (unlike a number of other quotes we received - one was more than double what we paid SEA and one for a just a much too large battery was also considerably more).
