Half Price Solar Panels in Victoria: A Game-Changer for Homeowners
The continuing rise in energy prices has led many Aussies to turn to solar energy for relief from their electricity bills. Not all homeowners, however have the ability to fund these type of installations. Leaving them in the grip of escalating electricity costs with no clear end in sight.
Until recently, Victorians were in the same boat as everyone else. But from the end of August 2018, many homeowners in our southern state. Will be able to install solar panels at almost half the price of everyone else. How is this possible and how does this scheme work?
The Victorian government comes to the rescue
Premier Daniel Andrews has announced a $1.24 billion scheme. Where Victorians will receive a benefit of $2,225 towards the installation of solar panels for their household. With the amount being refunded after the installation has been completed. Obviously by a CEC accredited installer.
This amounts to over 50% discount on Victorian’s solar panels. However, only if they are owner-occupiers with a combined household income of less than $180,00. And their home is valued at less than $3 million.
Unfortunately, if you live in Victoria and you already have solar panels. You won't qualify for a system upgrade under this scheme.
Premier Andrews estimates that over the next 10 years. More than 650,000 homes will benefit from these heavily discounted installations. Saving families up to $890 a year on their electricity bills.
An independent agency will be set up to oversee the scheme. Furthermore, the Andrews government has promised to spend an additional $9 million. To provide accreditation for 4500 electricians for the safe installation of these systems.
Victorian Environment Chief Executive Mark Wakeham says that by adding an additional 2000 megawatts of solar energy into the grid. This scheme will reduce the energy costs of all Victorians, not just those with solar panels.
