Battery and energy-efficiency incentives for NSW businesses. Federal incentives such as STCs and the instant asset write-off also apply – see the Federal section below.
Upfront discount via certificates (PRCs)
Who qualifies
NSW businesses installing a battery from 20 kWh to 200 kWh. New solar is not mandatory, but the discount is larger when installed within 90 days (new solar of at least 25% of battery capacity).
Estimated benefit
Battery without new solar: approx. 20–30% off. Battery with qualifying new solar: approx. 30–40% off. Example: a 100 kWh battery with new solar on the Ausgrid network is approx. $21,000–$29,500 off upfront.
How to access
Through an accredited PDRS supplier. SEA handles the application process.
Good to know
Certificate prices fluctuate, so estimated savings are indicative. A minimum $5,000 customer contribution is required.
Upfront discount via certificates (PRCs)
Who qualifies
Commercial and industrial sites installing battery systems above 200 kWh and up to 30 MWh. Designed for factories, logistics centres and large commercial buildings.
Estimated benefit
Scales with system size. Larger commercial projects can achieve six-figure upfront reductions. STCs and PRCs are stackable in NSW.
How to access
Through an accredited PDRS supplier. SEA can coordinate.
Good to know
Certificate prices fluctuate, so estimated savings are indicative.
Certificate-based discount (ESCs)
Who qualifies
NSW businesses installing eligible energy-efficient equipment. Current scheme rules took effect 1 July 2026.
Estimated benefit
Variable. Our team will give you a site-specific assessment.
How to access
Through an accredited ESS provider. SEA will advise on eligibility.
Good to know
Standard commercial solar PV is not a straightforward ESS activity. Eligibility depends on system type and site configuration.
Victoria’s commercial program centres on Victorian Energy Upgrades. Federal incentives such as STCs, the Cheaper Home Batteries Program and the instant asset write-off also apply – see the Federal section below.
Upfront discount via VEECs
Who qualifies
Victorian businesses and non-residential sites (offices, warehouses, schools, community buildings, hospitals) installing grid-connected solar PV from 30 kW to 200 kW, using a VEU-accredited provider and CEC-approved panels and inverters.
Estimated benefit
Up to approx. 35% off installation cost. A 30 kW system returns roughly $1,500–$4,000 in VEECs, and larger systems earn proportionally more. Stackable with federal STCs.
How to access
The discount is applied upfront through your accredited installer, so you do not handle certificates directly.
Good to know
Systems above 200 kW use the project-based measurement and verification pathway, where timeframes and value differ.
Certificate credit via project-based measurement
Who qualifies
Commercial and industrial sites installing battery storage above the threshold covered by standard activities. Incentive value is calculated on measured energy savings over time.
Estimated benefit
Variable. Depends on battery size, site load profile and duration. Our team will give you a site-specific calculation.
How to access
Through an accredited VEU provider. This is a more complex pathway than commercial solar, and SEA will advise whether it makes sense for your site.
Good to know
Victoria has no separate broad state battery rebate for commercial sites. Battery projects access value through VEU.
The ACT’s main levers for commercial projects are federal incentives, with the state loan below available in limited cases.
Low-interest loan
Who qualifies
ACT residents and owner-occupiers installing home battery storage. From 1 July 2026 the loan value increased to up to $20,000. The scheme is designed for households rather than commercial premises, but some business owners who own their property or are sole traders may be eligible in their personal capacity.
Estimated benefit
Up to $20,000 at low interest (3%) over up to 10 years. Stackable with the federal battery rebate. Concession card holders access zero-interest loans.
How to access
Apply through the ACT Climate Choices website via Brighte, the scheme’s loan provider.
Good to know
Confirm eligibility with your accountant and the ACT Climate Choices team.
Looking for a broader commercial program? We recommend combining federal STCs and the instant asset write-off. Together these typically reduce your effective project cost by 35–50%. Get a tailored breakdown from our team.
These federal incentives apply across NSW, VIC and the ACT, and stack with the state programs above.
Certificate (automatic upfront discount)
Who qualifies
Any business installing solar up to 1 MW. From 1 October 2026 the eligibility cap expanded from 100 kW to 1 MW, a major change for mid-size commercial rooftops.
Estimated benefit
A 100 kW system earns roughly $35,000–$40,000 off the install price, and a 500 kW system approx. $136,000. The installer applies the value at point of sale.
How to access
Automatic. SEA claims and applies STCs on your behalf at the time of installation.
Upfront discount (federal)
Who qualifies
Businesses installing eligible battery systems. Sliding discount scale: 100% applies to the first 14 kWh, 60% to the 14–28 kWh range and 15% to the 28–50 kWh portion.
Estimated benefit
Approx. 30% off an eligible installed battery. Stackable with state incentives such as VEU and STCs.
How to access
The installer applies the discount at point of sale.
Good to know
Primarily designed for residential, but applicable to eligible small business and co-located systems. Confirm applicability with SEA.
Tax deduction
Who qualifies
Australian businesses: the full cost of eligible commercial solar and battery assets can be written off in the year of purchase rather than depreciated over time.
Estimated benefit
Effectively a 25–30% tax saving on the net cost of the system, stacking on top of all other incentives.
How to access
Claimed through your annual tax return. Speak to your accountant, and SEA can provide the documentation you need.
A discount taken straight off your installation price, usually applied by your installer at the point of sale, so you pay less on day one. Examples include federal STCs and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
Government schemes that create tradeable certificates (such as STCs, PRCs and VEECs) for the energy you generate or save. We claim and apply their value as an upfront discount, so you never handle certificates yourself. Values move with certificate prices.
Low-interest finance, like the ACT Sustainable Household Scheme, spreads the cost, while tax incentives such as the instant asset write-off reduce what you pay at tax time. These sit alongside upfront discounts and can stack.
Tell us about your site. We identify every rebate and incentive you qualify for and build them into your quote.
Our team manages the applications, certificates and documentation, so you do not have to chase schemes or providers.
Your system is installed, rebates are applied upfront wherever the scheme allows, and you start cutting your energy costs.

My experience with SEA was first class. From the initial e-mail and then phone calls with Tarek Jawad from the sales team. Tarek was excellent to deal with - not pushy at all and very knowledgeable. When I was ready to proceed Tarek was again very supportive and gave clear timelines to installation date. The installation went well, the boys were polite and efficient. Everything was clean and tidy and they took time to ensure I was happy with the app for monitoring the system. And now, nearly two months later I am still very happy. There has so far only been one day where we have used grid power and that was when I left the air-con on all night! So Tarek's recommended combination of some additional solar panels and a 'right-sized' battery was spot on for our needs. The cost to us was excellent value (unlike a number of other quotes we received - one was more than double what we paid SEA and one for a just a much too large battery was also considerably more). Finally Tarek and SEA have both called since installation to ensure all is OK (it is) and we are still happy (We are). I don't often leave reviews but SEA deserve this 5 star comment.Posted on Google![]()

Whilst I did not go ahead with Smart Energy Answers due to them not being able to meet the timelines for rebates (understandable) - I had a very good consultation with Brad, he explained all the options and answered all my questions. Pricing was competitive.Posted on Google![]()

It depends on your state and system size. Federal STCs and the instant asset write-off apply nationally, while NSW (PDRS and ESS), Victoria (VEU) and the ACT (Sustainable Household Scheme) each add their own programs. See the state sections above for the details.
It can be any of the three. Most commercial incentives are certificate schemes that SEA applies as an upfront discount, some are low-interest loans, and others are tax deductions you claim through your return. The explainer above breaks down the difference.
For most programs we claim and apply the incentive on your behalf, so the discount appears on your quote. Tax incentives such as the instant asset write-off are claimed through your annual tax return, and we can provide the documentation your accountant needs.
Savings depend on your system size and the incentives you stack. For example, a 100 kW system earns roughly $35,000–$40,000 in STCs, and combining STCs with the instant asset write-off typically reduces effective project cost by 35–50%. Timing varies by scheme, and we confirm it in your quote.
Yes. In many cases federal and state incentives stack. For instance, STCs can be combined with VEECs in Victoria and with PRCs in NSW, and the instant asset write-off sits on top of all of them.
Not always. Under the NSW BESS4 incentive, new solar is not mandatory, but the discount is larger when solar is installed within 90 days of the battery.
No. Values are indicative and can change. Certificate prices fluctuate, and eligibility depends on your business, site and system. Our team will confirm the numbers that apply to you before you decide.
