What solar incentives are available in Queensland?

Table of Contents
Short answer

As at November 2026, Queensland households use the federal incentives for solar and batteries. Queensland also offers landlords rebates of up to $3,500 to install solar on rental properties through Supercharged Solar for Renters, and a regional feed-in tariff for customers outside South East Queensland.

  • Federal incentives: STCs for solar panels and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program for batteries. See What are STCs?
  • Supercharged Solar for Renters: rebates of up to $3,500 for eligible landlords installing solar on a rental property. It’s for solar panels only, not batteries, and isn’t available to owner-occupiers. The program is expected to help about 6,500 households, so check qld.gov.au to see whether it’s still open.
  • Regional feed-in tariff: set each year by the Queensland Competition Authority, for eligible customers outside South East Queensland with Ergon Energy Retail, or Origin Energy on the Essential Energy network.

On the old 44 cent Solar Bonus Scheme? It’s closed to new customers and ends on 1 July 2028. You can add a battery without automatically losing it, but you lose the tariff if the battery runs at the same time as the tariff-earning system, unless the battery has a separate network connection. Check with your electricity distributor before adding a battery, and don’t fit a larger inverter, because that also ends the tariff. Talk to us before adding a battery.
