Good-quality modern solar panels should last at least 20 years, according to the federal Solar Consumer Guide. Inverters usually need replacing before the panels. The warranty terms for your own equipment are set out in each manufacturer’s warranty documents, which you receive at handover.
Typical warranties, according to the federal guide:
- Panel product warranty: for many panels, 10 to 15 years, with some manufacturers offering 25 years or more.
- Panel performance warranty: almost all panels have a 25-year performance warranty, which sets the maximum drop in output over time.
- Inverter warranty: commonly 5 to 10 years for string, battery and hybrid inverters, and longer for some microinverters.
These are typical terms, not the terms for your system. Check your handover documents for the warranties on your equipment. SEA-installed systems also come with our 10-year workmanship guarantee and 5-year Whole-of-System Warranty, which sit alongside manufacturer warranties and your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Older installations may have different terms. See What warranties come with my SEA system?
