Is there a rebate for heat pump hot water?

Table of Contents
Short answer

Yes, in several ways. As at November 2026, eligible heat pump water heaters can create small-scale technology certificates (STCs) under the federal scheme, which reduce the upfront price. Victoria and the ACT also offer state rebates for eligible households.

  • Federal STCs: eligible heat pump water heaters can create STCs, usually taken as a discount on the price. See What are STCs?
  • Victoria: the Solar Homes hot water rebate is 50% of the purchase price of an eligible heat pump, up to $1,000, or up to $1,400 for an eligible locally made product. It’s calculated after other discounts such as STCs and VEECs are taken off. Income, property value and other tests apply.
  • ACT: the Home Energy Support Program offers concession card holders who own their home a 50% rebate up to $2,500 for a hot water heat pump. See ACT program
