Short answer

In some states, yes. As at November 2026, landlords can access solar rebates in Queensland and Victoria, zero-interest loans in NSW, and the WA battery rebate with the tenant’s consent. Each program has its own eligibility rules, so check the details for your state before you install.

  • Queensland: Supercharged Solar for Renters offers eligible landlords rebates of up to $3,500 for solar panels. Check qld.gov.au to see whether it’s still open.
  • Victoria: rental providers can get a Solar Homes rebate of up to $1,400 for solar panels, on up to two rental properties each financial year, with conditions including the renters’ household income and a signed agreement with the renters.
  • NSW: Home Energy Saver offers eligible landlords zero-interest loans of up to $15,000 in total for each property. From 9 am on 10 November 2026, the loan income test is a combined taxable household income of up to $150,000 a year, and the finance provider decides eligibility. Home Energy Saver discounts, which aren’t open yet, must be applied for by an eligible tenant with the landlord’s approval. See What is the NSW Home Energy Saver program?
  • Western Australia: the Residential Battery Scheme covers investment properties with a long-term tenant, if the tenant consents. VPP participation is required.
