Short answer
A battery keeps your power on during a blackout only if the system is designed and set up for backup. Many grid-connected solar systems shut down in an outage, and even some battery systems won’t power your home. Backup needs a system that can “island” from the grid, plus a battery for power at night or in cloudy weather.
If backup power matters to you, tell us at your consultation. We’ll explain:
- whether the battery you’re considering can provide backup
- which circuits or appliances it will run during an outage
- whether backup would cover your whole home or only selected circuits. On a three-phase supply, backup may only cover one phase.
Don’t assume a battery provides backup unless your quote says so.
