Short answer
Solar and battery installers and designers should be accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA). Only SAA-accredited designers and installers are eligible to take part in the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, which provides the small-scale technology certificates (STCs) that give an upfront discount on eligible systems.
A few things to know:
- SAA took over accreditation in 2024. The Clean Energy Council no longer accredits installers, so “CEC accredited” isn’t a current credential.
- Accreditation is by technology. There are separate classes for grid-connected solar (GCPV), grid-connected batteries (GCBS) and stand-alone power systems. A solar accreditation doesn’t cover battery installation.
- Retailers are different. A business selling solar can be a New Energy Tech Approved Seller, which is a separate, company-level credential.
You can ask any installer for their SAA accreditation details. As at November 2026.
