As at November 2026, every state and territory can access the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which has a design target of around 30% off the upfront cost of an eligible battery, as a discount on the price. The actual percentage depends on battery size, certificate price and fees. NSW adds an incentive for joining a virtual power plant, and Western Australia has its own battery rebate. Victoria and South Australia no longer have state battery rebates.
| Where | What’s available |
|---|---|
| All states | Cheaper Home Batteries Program discount |
| NSW | Federal discount, plus a VPP incentive that can be combined with it |
| Victoria | Federal discount only. The Solar Victoria battery rebates and loans have closed. |
| Queensland | Federal discount |
| South Australia | Federal discount only. The SA Home Battery Scheme has closed. |
| Western Australia | Federal discount, plus the WA Residential Battery Scheme (VPP required) |
| ACT | Federal discount |
This table covers the main battery programs as at November 2026. If you see an older program online, such as the SA Home Battery Scheme, check whether it’s still open. Many have closed.
The federal discount is reducing over time and depends on battery size. See Is the federal battery discount reducing?
