Solar prices vary because quotes often aren’t comparing the same thing. Systems differ in size, equipment brand and model, the work included in the installation, how incentives are applied, and the warranties and after-sales support that come with them. Compare solar quotes line by line rather than on the total price alone.
When comparing quotes, check:
- System size and equipment. The exact panels, inverter and battery, by brand and model.
- Incentives. Whether the discount is shown clearly against the price, and when you’ll receive it.
- Fees. For the federal battery discount, retailers and installers may include administration fees and charges, and they must clearly show the discount against the price of the system.
- Warranties. What the manufacturer covers, and what the installer covers on top of that, and for how long.
- After-sales support. Who you call if something goes wrong.
