Do solar panels need cleaning or maintenance?

Table of Contents
Short answer

Solar panels don’t need much maintenance. The federal Solar Consumer Guide suggests you could have your solar and battery system serviced every two years by an accredited solar installer or qualified electrician. Most panels sit on a slope of at least 10 degrees, so they should clean themselves when it rains.

  • Cleaning: may be needed in some situations, such as very dusty locations. Only a qualified person should clean panels. Please don’t climb onto your roof.
  • Servicing: check your system documents for its maintenance schedule. Any service should be done by an accredited solar installer or qualified electrician.
  • Monitoring: if your monitoring app shows a drop in output, get in touch.
