Short answer
Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) lets a compatible electric vehicle send power from its battery back to your home or the grid through a bidirectional charger. As at November 2026, NSW has written a V2G incentive into its Peak Demand Reduction Scheme, but it isn’t available yet and has no start date.
The NSW Government plans to launch the incentive once key conditions are in place, including:
- car makers clearly support V2G under their warranties
- equipment meets the relevant technical standards
- bidirectional electric vehicles and chargers are more widely available.
